Copper Plate Photogravure Workshops
with Paul Taylor
2012 Workshop Dates: July 13, 14, 15 & 16
Digital Film Workshop: July 12th (highly recommended)
“Of all photoengraving methods of reproduction there is none which produces such rich and satisfying results as photogravure. The reason for this is to be found in the method of printing. It is an intaglio process and, therefore, the quantity of ink which is transferred to the paper can be considerable, and it shares with mezzotint among hand engraving processes the resulting richness of tones.” -- A.J. Bull J.S.c., Inst. P. 1930
The abundance of variables inherent in photogravure plate making and printing is limited only by the artist’s imagination.
This summer, Renaissance Press will be offering two intensive copper plate photogravure workshops, introducing students to the evolution of photogravure technique and imagery, from the processes inception to present day practitioners. The workshop will last four days for those who have already developed their own method of digital file preparation and output. A fifth day is available for those wishing to incorporate the digital film aspect of photogravure. The digital aspect of the workshop is highly recommended. We will use piezography inks for film output at the workshops (please see the digital film section of this website for more information). Artists that wish to use Mylar for direct photogravure plate making and printing are also welcome. Please expect intensive days in a relaxing and professional environment.
Paul Taylor, owner and Director of Renaissance Press, will lead the workshop. Paul began his work with photogravure in the late seventies and has been refining the process for over thirty years.
